Like Steve Wheeler, I was also intrigued by the TES article on the 7 Habits of Highly effective teachers. I would add though, that most important aspect of Steven Covey’s original list, ‘Sharpening The Saw’ which continues to be important for all teachers who tend to overwork. Sharpen the Saw means in the words of the great man himself ‘preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have-you.’

I really take your point about looking after yourself Karen – we all need to do this more in an increasingly fast moving society in which managerialism and false economies rule. The teacher is the greatest asset each school/college/university owns, and they won’t look after us. We therefore need to look after ourselves. I really believe we can begin to morally support each other as a community of interest, through the likes of Twitter, and other social networking tools.
